Q+A: Filmon Adelehey

Filmon’s colorful yet tender portraits show off the artist’s gift for communication, empathy, and connection.

How would you describe your style?

My style is contemporary-Impressionist art.

What subjects do you enjoy working on?

I mostly focus on portraits, but I also enjoy cityscape and landscape.

What medium(s) do you work in?

I usually work with oil color, and I also work with charcoal.

How has your process evolved?

My process:
– I select my model
– I plan to compose light/depth, and take a picture
– I select materials and the size of my canvas
– I use direct lines to sketch the object
– I use a knife palette if it’s oil color
– Then I start to make shape, form, value, and texture with my colors
– Finally, my work is ready for exhibit

What got you started creating art?

I can read emotional expressions, and that’s what drives me to keep creating art and show it through my paintings.

What artists influence your work?

My work is influenced by modern fine art, especially contemporary portrait Impressionist artists.
